  • Organisation: Noble Park Community Centre
  • Grant fund: Community Safety Fund
  • Grant amount: $8900

Noble Park Community Centre plays a positive role in creating an inclusive and welcoming community that is supportive of Noble Park’s most vulnerable. It services over 40 user groups from senior citizens and children to refugees, and offers a broad range of classes and rooms for hire for private and community functions.

Recently the community centre has increasingly been the site of critical incidents that have jeopardised the safety of users and staff. People hiring the facilities and unknown perpetrators have also damaged centre property.

The team at Noble Park Community Centre have taken a holistic approach to increasing the perception of safety and preventing criminal activity at the centre. This project was a key part of their response. After assessing the issues and identifying areas for improvement, an extensive access control and swipe card system was installed. Now only authorised people can access restricted areas and those hiring facilities have greater accountability.

The outcomes of the project have been positive with only one incident reported since the security upgrade. Both staff and regular visitors have commented that since the improvements they feel safer at the centre. As a direct result, a number of new groups have started hiring the Noble Park Community Centre facilities.
