In 2015, the Victorian Minister for Police endorsed the pilot of the Place-Based Targeted Grants program, with funding of $2.2 million to support the development and delivery of locally based partnership projects that reduce the risks of crime and increase community safety in areas experiencing high rates of crime and disadvantage.

The program provided funding to 12 projects aimed at reducing crime in disadvantage, with a particular focus on supporting initiatives which addressed young people or other particularly vulnerable groups, such as Koori and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities. Projects funded through the program concluded in late 2018.

An evaluation of the program was conducted by Urbis with the final report provided in December 2018. A summary of the report, which includes individual project summaries, is available here
