In the Get Real DVD, a former tagger tells his story in an effort to raise awareness of the negative consequences of the illegal graffiti subculture.

He speaks candidly about how graffiti then led to involvement in gangs and violence, as well as the impact on his family when he was arrested for vandalism.

The City of Greater Geelong developed the DVD in consultation with young people from local schools, with input from Victoria Police, community organisations and Corrections Victoria. Council wanted to educate young people on the costs of engaging in illegal graffiti to them as individuals, to their families and to the broader community.

Council has piloted the DVD as part of an education program in schools to facilitate discussion about young people’s choices and the costs of engaging in graffiti vandalism.
