The 'Guide to developing CCTV for public safety in Victoria' is a helpful resource for any council or organisation considering implementing CCTV.

It outlines the recommended steps organisations should follow when implementing and evaluating CCTV, as well as some key considerations to ensure it is an effective crime prevention tool for your area.

It is recommended that this guide is read in conjunction with the Guidelines to surveillance and privacy in the Victorian public sector (External link) by the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (May 2022). These guidelines provide a set of best practice principles for using surveillance technologies in Victoria, and important information on privacy obligations of councils operating CCTV systems. This information applies to government organisations bound by the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic), which repealed the Information Privacy Act 2000 (Vic).
