This project supports young people to tell their positive stories of change and how they turned their lives around following involvement with the criminal justice system.

Young Australian People has launched a documentary which features positive stories of young people who have turned their lives around in the face of adversity.

The documentary is the first of two being delivered by Young Australian People, supported by a $50,000 contribution from the Victorian Government’s Youth Engagement Grants program under the Crime Prevention portfolio. Youth Engagement Grants support small Aboriginal and multicultural organisations to engage young people in prosocial activities, connect with their culture and community, and stay on the right track.

Young Australian People aims to engage up to ten ‘Young Australian Champions’ who have important stories and messages to share. The project aims to deliver workshops in effective story telling through video-making, podcast recording, social media and radio.

Through the sharing of young people’s stories, the documentary provides an opportunity to inspire others who may be struggling.

This project is about giving young people a chance – a chance to feel valued, to be heard, to connect with others and to live a fulfilling life.

Preparations are underway for a second documentary to be produced in 2024.
